Sired some sturdy runners, but produced only a few graded winner. His best sons were Mr. Payne & Son of Silky, but only Mr. Payne came close to replicating his father's "come-from-behind" style. When Silky ran in the 1958 Kentucky Derby, the network used a split-screen technique to cover the race. One camera was focused on the leaders, while another, the image from which appeared in the lower corner of the screen, covered Silky`s progress at the back of the pack, waiting for the come-from-behind colt to make his move. (It never came & he finished 12th in a field of 14.) In retirement he made a special appearance each St. Patrick's Day at Golden Gate Fields. died Nov. 18, 1977 Buried in Golden Gate infield (1 of only 2 horses to receive this honor).
